چکیده

microcatheters using a mixture of tissue glue and lipiodol, a radio-opaque oil-based contrast agent that can alter the viscosity and polymerisation time of tissue glue based on the percentage of dilution.2 Based on preand post-embolisation angiograms, the proportion of AVM nidus obliterated and parenchymal loss of the treated kidney were estimated, performed with simple eyeballing by an experienced radiologist. The patients were followed-up clinically for recurrence of symptoms, and by imaging when necessary.

Nidal embolization of brain arteriovenous malformations using Onyx in 94 patients.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE To report our experience in the treatment of brain arteriovenous malformations (BAVMs) using Onyx (ev3, Irvine, Calif). PATIENTS AND METHODS From January 1999 to October 2004, 94 patients with BAVMs were treated endovascularly in our department. They were 51 (54%) men and 43 (46%) women with a mean age of 32 years. A total of 210 endovascular procedures were performed w...

Feasibility and outcomes of endovascular embolization of cerebral arteriovenous malformations at a low-volume centre.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Herein, we report our initial experience with the endovascular management of cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) using the liquid embolic agent Onyx and n-butyl cyanoacrylate for AVM embolization. METHODS We reviewed data from 15 patients with brain AVMs, who were observed at our endovascular facility from January 2008 to July 2011. All cases were embolized with...

Effect of glacial acetic acid and ethiodized oil concentration on embolization with N-butyl 2-cyanoacrylate: an in vivo investigation.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Precise control of the polymerization dynamics of cyanoacrylate mixtures used in the embolization of cerebral arteriovenous malformations is required to achieve a safe and permanent obliteration of the lesion. In this study, in vivo embolization using mixtures of Histoacryl, Lipiodol Ultra-Fluid, and glacial acetic acid (GAA) was investigated. The present study investigat...

Embolization of high-flow craniofacial vascular malformations with onyx.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Various techniques and materials have been used for the endovascular treatment of craniofacial high-flow arteriovenous vascular malformations, because their rarity precludes standardization of their treatment. The aim of this retrospective review is to assess Onyx as the primary embolic agent in the treatment of these vascular malformations. MATERIALS AND METHODS Six pa...

Acute and chronic swine rete arteriovenous malformation models: effect of ethiodol and glacial acetic acid on penetration, dispersion, and injection force of N-butyl 2-cyanoacrylate.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Liquid embolic agents are increasingly gaining importance in the embolization of cerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). Currently, the most commonly used agent is N-butyl 2-cyanoacrylate (NBCA). Various NBCA mixtures, arterial hypotension, and Valsalva maneuver (increased positive end-expiratory pressure) during the injection of the acrylate have been used to addres...
